After five years of relocations, transitions, and unwavering commitment from our staff, Eva’s Satellite has returned home.
As of May 1, young people moved into the newly renovated and reimagined shelter at 25 Canterbury Place, the permanent home of Eva’s Satellite. After closing in 2021 for major repairs, the site has undergone a complete transformation and is now ready to provide safe shelter and 24-7 wrap-around support to up to 33 youth aged 16–24.
Owned by the City of Toronto and operated by Eva’s, the shelter reflects the latest in trauma-informed shelter design. The upgrades — including new plumbing and electrical systems, improved lighting, new flooring, and a brand-new roof — help create a bright, clean, and welcoming environment where young people can begin to heal, rebuild, and move toward brighter futures.
Youth at Eva’s Satellite will continue to have access to comprehensive supports tailored to their needs, including:
- Nutritious meals, including three meals and two snacks a day
- One-on-one case management
- Onsite primary and preventative health care through Inner City Health Associates
- Life skills training and employment support
- Recreation and wellness programming

“Working closely with the City of Toronto to reconfigure this space has been an important step forward in better meeting the evolving needs of youth experiencing homelessness,” said David Reycraft, Senior Director of Programs at Eva’s. “We’re thrilled to be returning to our home in North York and deeply grateful to Councillor Lily Cheng and the Willowdale community for their continued support.”
“For the staff and youth at Satellite, it’s more than just a move — it’s a return to consistency and community. A young person told me today that it’s the best place she has ever lived,” shared Monique Thompson, Senior Site Manager of Eva’s Satellite. “There’s a lot of room for programming and connection. It feels like a fresh start, a place where young people can begin to rebuild, grow, and move toward the futures they deserve.”
This homecoming is a major milestone for Eva’s, and a moment of celebration for all those who have worked tirelessly over the last five years to support youth through multiple moves — including emergency accommodations in motels and hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year alone, the team at Eva’s Satellite supported 115 youth from our temporary site in Scarborough.

How You Can Support
Eva’s shelter programs are funded in part by the City of Toronto, but 30% of our shelter costs must be covered by donors. Your support helps us deliver the high-quality, wrap-around services youth need.
We welcome both monetary and in-kind donations — including new clothing, hygiene products, backpacks, and non-perishable food items. These contributions help us ensure that youth have access to the essentials they need to feel safe, respected, and cared for.
Due to the need to protect the confidentiality and safety of our residents, on-site volunteer opportunities are limited and can be difficult to coordinate. However, community members and groups can still get involved through off-site volunteerism, hosting donation drives, or supporting fundraising events throughout the year.
