A message from Radha, an Eva’s alum!

Hello, my name is Radha.

I became homeless 3 years ago when I had to leave home due to domestic abuse. It was really hard, trying to balance high school, work and life while living in various shelters in the city.

When I moved to Eva’s Phoenix, I finally received the support and motivation that I needed. What sets Eva’s apart is the genuine care that it offers to young people like me, every day.

Whenever I had a problem, someone at Eva’s would always listen to me and try to help. When I needed counseling, support or access to programs, I was able to receive that. And whenever I shared that I got an A on a test or that I received my orange belt in karate it felt so good to have someone smile at me proudly!

Now I am a studying business at Ryerson University and I volunteer as a peer mentor for other young women who have experienced domestic abuse. I am involved in acting and the arts, and I run a small business selling eco-friendly leather backpacks. And just last month I moved out of Eva’s Phoenix and into my own place in downtown Toronto!

What Eva’s has done for me is erased the word ‘less’ from the word ‘homeless’, because every time I came home to Eva’s I actually felt like I was home.

I will be telling you more about my story at Eva’s Home for Life on June 21st at Evergreen Brick Works. I hope that you will come and I am looking forward to meeting all of the kind people who support youth like me through Eva’s at the event. Also the food and auction items are going to be awesome!
