Construction at the new Eva’s Phoenix continues, with ongoing work happening to finish the mechanical, electrical and plumbing on the new building. The wall separating Eva’s Phoenix from the remainder of the historic St. Andrew’s Market building was recently completed and we have begun pouring the concrete for the second and third floor.
The new Eva’s Phoenix will replicate the existing Phoenix layout, with self-contained town home-style living quarters. Each youth will have their own bedroom, with shared kitchen, living room and washrooms. In addition to transitional residence for 50 homeless youth at a time, the training, employment and education programs offered at Phoenix will continue to be delivered to 150 homeless youth each year.
Our new site is really starting to look like a place where Eva’s youth can learn new skills and have the supports they need to transition to independent living.
The photographic time line below, shows the building’s progress to date.
To date, we have raised $9.1 million of the campaign goal. Community support for Eva’s Phoenix has been phenomenal. I am fortunate to work with a stellar group of Cabinet members and am eternally grateful for their wisdom and tenacity in assisting Eva’s in raising the capital funds required to build the new Eva’s Phoenix.
My special thanks go out to our Cabinet members including our Chair J. Lorne Braithwaite, Bill Furlong, Phil Gillin, Niall Haggart, Bruce Logan, Robert Mongeau, Don Wright and Graeme Young.
